Are you sure its solid gold? A lot of pocket watches from the 1800s were made with "gold filled cases." technically not the same thing as gold plate, but similar. Two thin layers of gold sandwiched around a base metal like brass. then this triple layer was shaped into the watch case. The gold filled cases have little value, except to a collector. collectors need mint cases for movements which have no case.
