What you need to know is 1897 was the patent date. Your chopper was made in the 1940's, when they began manufacturing these choppers in the early 1900's they were cast iron with no zinc finish. Sorry to tell you but your chopper is worth about $12.00-$15.00, but hey you only spent $3.00.Even if it were a really ealry model it would only go for about $40. As you can tell just by picking it up, they were made really solid and they were found in kitchens across America.
