1920's JDeal Sterling Silver Utensil Set

By sk8brdkd, 5 November, 2009
Description

My dad believes this item is Sterling Silver, yet, it doesn't say anywhere on this item that it is sterling silver. Each utensil says JDeal on the back of it.

My dad also believes this item is from the 1920's or maybe early 1930's. He can't find any information on the company JDeal so, I was wondering if anyone knows anything about that company or may be able to tell me some history on this item or how much this is worth - if known.

This isn't a complete set. Its only half a set - 6 items each - 6 soup spoons, 6 dessert spoons, 6 forks, and 6 knives. It is an very good condition.

Re: 1920's JDeal Sterling Silver Utensil Set

By International conventions all items made of precious metals such as silver carry markings to indicate their level of purity, such as the word "Sterling", numbers such as " 925" ( 925/1000 parts pure), "800"
( 800/1000 parts pure) or stamped markings referred to as " Hall Marks" that indicate the date made, the maker, city of origin and metal content.

If there are no such markings on your set, they are most likely silver plate, that being said, with the price of silver getting ready to crack 18.00 an ounce it wouldn't hurt to have a jeweler test it for silver content.
