Re: 1950 Amana Freezer--
This is a "story"--nothing disparaging about the appliance--I had the identical Amana at home from about 1960---till year 2000--sometime about 1998-99 I opened the door as usual---the top hinge pin "snapped"----I stood,holding the door(which was also packed with frozen item's)for two or three minute's--not knowing what to do without having the bottom hinge also snap off due to the twisting effect without the top hinge---I finally moved very slowly and got the door latched which held it in place---I then was able to drive the old seized pin pieces out and slip a small bolt or screw in as replacement--nearly 40 year's of opening that door--rust had apparently seized the pin--it kept thing's frozen even tho the condenser fan had stopped operating---
So--be careful---that could happen with other make's and model's of appliance--some injury is possible--
It was16 cubic foot capacity as I recall-we bought it used from a neighbor around 1960-
