2 drawer handpainted yellowed background with teal/ turquoise and red painted simple design looks hand painted, painted on design sides and front . solid wood with thick wood pieces on back . the inside and underneath are not painted nor is the back which leads me to believe the paint is origininal no name on it but has like an antique paper lining on interior drawer sides and bottom.. no plywood of any sort , scalloped bottom. wood is cracked a bit in places .Just saw one that lookes very similar on an antique dealer site that said circa 1750s.. and they were asking a price of 9000 $ maybe a little better shape but this is a solid piece no dovetails looks benchmade maybe? . I bought it at a restore thrift shop for a 100 $ so no one has any info on the history but a middle aged supposedly wealthy man yesterday came into the store who they say is a reg. customer and in the furniture antique, tried to buy it out from under me when I went to get a measuring tape, he ran up to desk and paid for it and when I told him I had already planned on buying it he threatened to sue Habitat after they said they made a mistake and refunded his money lol So was curious as to why he was so bent on getting this? Now the plot thickens just got a call as Im typing this from the restore stating they want us to return the dresser and get our money back and they will give us a bonus 100 dollar credit as well as our $ back. THe man apparently called the store and demanded that he paid for it before we did and that he is suing them.. I cant believe he would want to sue a nonprofit trying to do good for the community and now im really curious ! but im not giving it back because he knew darn well we were going to buy it but was sneaky and went up and paid for it. the minute we turned our back he's just going to turn around and sell it for a profit. So can anybody offer any advice on this piece (:
