African Pygmy Arrows and Quiver

When somethings rare, I'd find it hard to acquire and even more valuble than these sets found on line. I worked for the pigmy foundation and have several sets of pigmy knives spears and bows with arrows. Some pieces were made and used as intented. Other pieces are for gift or trade to raise money. A wedding set might have two or three varieties of arrows reflecting clan art and style. My authentic set is less impressive and no metal tip arrow heads. The metal tips came into use with outside influence. They'd be flatened thin metal and easily folded or pounded into shape.

The bow need not be strong, the prey was taken down by poison arrow tips, so the wound need only be shallow. What I see in the photo looks to me like tourist trade but possibly pigmy because of the impact of civilization. They pigmy people learned to make for you out of any material at hand, a nice replica of the past.

There are still fine pieces out there for sale but ask yourself if you lived deep in the ituri Rainforest away from all white man, how would you make yours and what would it most likely look like?
