Description

 American antique pedistal roll top desk. Made of mahogany. Hand made dovetail joints. Extendable desk top. Writting surface that can be raised. Cabinet front. Side compartment. Locking roll top,front cabinet doors and side compartment. I have not seen anything like it online

It's very unlikely this desk dates from 1840. In todays market similar desks often sell at auction for less than $1500.00, most retail for under $4000.00. You can check somethning to help narrow down an age, for example most furniture made circa1850+ will have screws with pointed ends, earlier screws are flat on the end.
