Angel Vases

Profile picture for user lwa57

Description

I have two angel vases that appear to be funeral vases. They stand approximately 21" tall with the wings of the angels being full length vases. On the bottom of the angel holding the book is a handwritten notation that it is, "From Estate of Bishop Matthews". Other markings include the stamped numbers, "6959" and below that the numbers "35". Also written by hand in what appears to be black ink is, "D" "VII" "44". The conditions appear as good, but upon close examination, the vase with the book has a crack that encompasses the entire circumfrence. Someone tried to have the item repaired as there are signs of "pins" holding the statuette together. A newspaper clipping from 1999 was inserted in one of the vases that mentioned an estate in Hawaii that was pilferred by it's caretaker. This estate was some form of royalty that was left to a school there and the estate is worth Billions. I understood the caretaker's name to be "Bishop" (?). Though I could not find any connection or verification on the story, someone thought there was a connection and placed the article in one of the vases. Unfortunately the article is now lost and I am telling the story best from memory. The angel with the book is in fair condition and the tamborine angel vase is in slightly better condition.

Can anyone help me find information on these vases and give me a ballpark figure as to their worth? Thanks.
