I dont kno if its brass or gold... It has 4 balls that rotates/spins and i dont know if it takes batteries or not but u can wind it to set the tim in the back. It has a removeable clear plastic domb cover. My husband found it on a basement clean out job the owner said whatever he finds he can keep or get rid of it. It was wrapped in shredded paper in a cardboard box.
