  • Medium: Oil on canvas (Reproduction)
  • Dimensions: Approx. 25" x 28"

Identification & Attribution

This painting is a reproduction of a Parisian street scene, signed Antoine Blanchard (1910-1988). Antoine Blanchard was a French post-impressionist artist, best known for his romanticized depictions of Paris in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. His work is often compared to Edouard Cortès, as both artists captured the atmosphere of bustling Parisian streets.

Key Identifiers in Your Piece:

  1. Signature
    • The signature appears to be printed or painted in a stylized manner, similar to known reproductions of Blanchard’s work.
    • The double period after the name is a known feature in many mass-produced prints or hand-painted reproductions.
    • If this were an original Blanchard oil painting, the value would be significantly higher.
  2. Reproduction Characteristics
    • The "Frames & Mouldings" sticker (Made in Taiwan, R.O.C.) suggests the piece was framed post-production, possibly as part of a mass-market collection.
    • The backing board and factory labeling indicate this is a decorative art reproduction, not an original gallery or studio work.
  3. Limited Edition or Numbered Print?
    • The presence of numbering partially hidden under the frame suggests this could be a limited edition print rather than a fully mass-produced piece.
    • Limited edition giclĂ©e or lithograph prints of Antoine Blanchard's works exist in the market.

Market Value Estimate

  • If this is a hand-embellished or numbered reproduction:
    • $200 - $800 USD (depending on edition size and print method)
  • If this is a giclĂ©e print on canvas (machine-produced):
    • $100 - $300 USD
  • If this were an original oil painting by Antoine Blanchard:
    • $5,000 - $30,000+ USD (auction estimates)

Professional Appraisal & Next Steps

To confirm whether this is a numbered limited-edition reproduction or just a decorative print, I recommend:

  1. Removing the frame to check for edition numbers, publisher marks, or certificates of authenticity.
  2. Consulting an art appraiser who specializes in French impressionist-style art, such as:
    • Heritage Auctions (ha.com)
    • Sotheby’s or Christie’s fine art departments
    • Local fine art galleries with experience in 20th-century European art

Conclusion

This piece is a high-quality reproduction of a painting by Antoine Blanchard, likely produced for decorative purposesor as part of a limited edition run. While it is not an original, it retains decorative and collector value. Removing the frame to uncover more details about its numbering may provide additional insights into its rarity.
