Prior to World War One (1914) most liquid products from vinegar to turpentine were shipped and sold in jugs like this. The earlier examples often had handpainted decoration and impressed with company names of either the potter or retailer. The stencilled examples like this one tend to date from the last quarter of the 19th Century (1875-1900) and are relatively common, most sell for under $80.00.
