Antique Asian Vase

By viol8ion, 8 December, 2012
Description

The vase is Asian, just under 6 inches tall. Three inches wide. The pattern appears to be cloisonne, the outlines of the intricate floral patterns are raised wire metal. The shoulder has some small chips were the metal work is exposed, and the glasslike ceramic finish inside is chipped.

The base and the rim are brass rings, the interior is a green glazed ceramic material. The body of the vase appears to be brass underneath the cloisonne.

The glass has bright gold metallic highlights and speckles.

I have been able to determine that it is probably Japanese, circa 1890-1900.

History
This vase came down through the family. My grandmother received it as a gift from my aunt who is Japanese, probably in the late 1940's early 1950's. My aunt was the first Japanese citizen to marry an American after WWII.

Re: Antique Asian Vase

I was able to figure this one out, no thanks to this forum. This is the third item I posted without any response.

This is a signed Ando Jube (the maltese cross on the bottom signifies that) pre-1920 - since the logo is made of formed wire, likely to be circa 1890 to 1900.

It is silver wire cloisonne', not very unique, it would be better if I had the pair but my granmother probably gave the other to my late uncle, and his ex-wife probably sold it at a garage sale for $5 or tossed it when she moved.

Value if in better condition, and in a pair would be towards the $1000 mark. As is, I would be lucky to get $200 for it, I suspect.
