Antique bed warmer from India.

By CazzaAngel, 29 September, 2010
Description

Like I said above, I got this item in a small antique shop in Iowa somewhere around 8-10 years ago when I was visiting family.  I had no idea at the time what it was for sure. I bought it because I thought it was very interesting looking. I *THINK* it is a Bed Warmer, but I am not 100% sure. I've had a couple people think it was some sort of kitchen ware, but I'm going to go with Bed Warmer. Hopefully someone here can tell me for sure.

It is brass or copper, it has "India" spelled out on the bottom in little engraved dots that make the letters up. It has reddish-orange wooden handle and designs on the top; some sort of creature, perhaps mythological. It also has what seems to be leaves, dots and what looks to be half loop designs around the edges.  The top has what seems to be an attached lid that opens up, and the bottom has little pads on it.

Perhaps I could be enlightened on how old it is, what it is for sure and what it is worth. Any info appreciated.
