Antique Candle and Matching Candle Holder

By abg0509, 23 January, 2011
Description

The base is a heavy metal, either brass, copper, or brass or copper plated lead.  It is painted like a stained glass and has four gargoyle like creature at each corner of the base.  The candle is also heavier than modern candles the same size and has a wood stain or laquer finish.  The top of the candle has a ribbon motife that goes around the entire top of the candle.  There is an engraving of either "F.M. circa 1917" or "F.T.M. circa 1717" on one of the ledges of the candle holder.

History
I've tried doing some research on this and have had a little trouble. Not sure who F.M. or F.T.M is, although I'd like to. My husband was hired by a friend to help clean out a house after their tenant had passed away and the family had already gone through the belongings. I received a few pieces from the house, this being one of them.
