Description

Beautiful hardwood (mahogany?) chair that I acquired 10-12 years ago.  Purchased from a private owner who said he had grown up in North Carolina and that the chair had been in his household for as long as he could remember.  Lots of dings and nicks, but nothing catastrophic.  Amateur modern reupholstery job that is now torn.  There are no visible maker marks, although I have not removed most of the upholstery.  Decorative scroll and leaf work appears to possibly be gesso.  The chair is too awkward to weigh on a home scale, but it is difficult for me to lift--very heavy!   I can see that one of the joints holding the front apron to the leg is a dowel joint.  The other joints are very tight and the whole construction is rock solid.   Casters on the feet are a modern addition.  I am trying to decide whether to finally restore or sell this piece, but I would like to first know exactly what it is.
