Description

This is a very old barrel keg from Spaulding and Frost which is the oldest white pine cooperage in the United States. First founded in 1874 and still making barrels in Fremont, New Hampshire.

It appears someone hand painted the barrel with farm themes. Chickens, flowers, and a sun. Great and vibrant colors still.

Some rusting on two Bottom rings of metal but this gives it a nice aged patina. Could be cleaned up if desired.

Wood is in great condition for its age. Very rich, dark, and vibrant color.

4 markings of "SPAULDING & FROST FREMONT, N.H." 1 very clear marking on one end and 3 markings one after the other on the other end which are a bitter harder to read on the wood.

Folk art pieces had huge rises in value during the 1980's , which spawned a lot of reproductions, usually painted on genuinely old boxes, barrels and furniture. Without a provenance it's difficult to determine authenticity, the ones produced in the 1980's have now aged enough to develop a collectibility of there own. Wed'd retail one like this for about $150.00.
