Antique Hand Carved Horse Lamps

By cedins, 23 May, 2011
Description

These are hand carved original horse lamps. They came from the Buffalo NY area around the Buffalo Race track. I have owned them for 30+ years and paid a small fortune for them myself when I bought them. I know the price is high, but it is firm. To me they are worth this much or more. The material is unknown to me, it is not ivory, although it seems like it. It may be petrified wood, but I can not guarentee this, however, I have been told it is most likely the material by antique experts. The wood blocks inbetween the carved pieces is cherry. The lamps are absolutely bueatiful. They work and are in good condition. I have burgandy shades on them. The clip that screws above the shades to hold the shades in place is missing on both lamps

History
I bought these at an action in Upstate NY in the Buffalo area around 1982. I paid 100 a piece for them and was told they were old then. I thought they were ivory, but they do not pass the 'pin' test for that. I think they may be petrified wood but it is hard to tell, I am actually not sure what they are made of. the wood base is cherry. The carvings are not all the same exact detail and they look hand carved but again not sure. I can not find any initials or signature for an artist.
