Description

This pouch is 3 sided buckskin decorated with beads on all 3 sides.  It is approximately 9 inches in length and 4 inches at its widest on each of the 3 sides plus the fringe. The pouch is lined with a plain fabric.   It is in good condition with no tears, no missing pieces of fringe and most importantly no missing beads.  It has been in our family for 80 plus years. We believed it was obtained sometime between the early 1900's and 1930's while our family was living in So. Dakota.

Buckskin medicine pouch of the Shoshone tribe (going by the colours and pattern of the beaded flowers), who were basically nomadic in the states around South Dakota where your family were living.

Equally called an amulet pouch, but the flowers suggest medicine (herbs) for this one.
