Description
I believe this is antique lamp, made of either ceramic or porcelain. I don't know who in the family came about this beautiful man, woman lamp that has a chain to pull to light it up. The bulb does not come with it. There is not a lamp shade, but it does work. I think it may be a Victorian style lamp. It is about 10 1/2" tall, and about 4 1/4" across. On the bottom are the #'s 7061B. The lamp holder has Leviton, Made in USA, 660w, 250v, Lamp holder. Does anyone know something about this style lamp? If so, would you know the value? Thank you, Donna

Re: Antique lamp, Man, Woman Victorian style with chain...
This antique figurine lamp looks like it's from the "Occupied Japan" time span of 1945-1952. There were similar figurine lamps manufactured in Japan after World War 2. More history on "Occupied Japan" products can be found at http://gotheborg.com/qa/oj.shtml. You should be able to easily get $50 from your lamp.
God Bless!

Hi Donna,
I think you are saying that it is only the "lampholder" (the place where you screw in the bulb) that says "made in USA."
If that is true, then most likely it is a new socket installed so that the lamp could be safely used in the USA.
Electric current is a little different in Japan even now, and it may have been more so back then.
This may change the value for some collectors, but if the lamp wasn't modified in any other way it should retain most of it's value as an antique, not to mention a collectible.
Good luck

I agree with the other posters, it's Japanese. A lot of these were made pre and post World War Two, many had paper or foil labels, which were often removed after sale or have simply fallen off.
