Description

This clock was passed down from my GG Grandmother who arrived in U.S. in 1831 from London.  Name on clock is William Story and when I had work done on the clock in 1972 I was told that he was a clock maker and there should be decorative gold filigree pieces around the clock face that were missing.  Some features of the clock are a pull string (I guess to make it chime in the dark of night).  William Story's listing in Baillies' Watchmakers & Clock Makers of the World sayd:  London, Red Lion St. 1737   d. 1784    g. watch, musical bracket clock

I think the person who worked on the clock estimated its date as ca. 1750.  A significant feature of the numerals on the face is that "4" is IIII rather than IV.

I would be very grateful to hear from anyone who can tell me more about this clock, thanks in advance for any comments.

The clock restorer who worked on it ca. 1972 actually got it to work although it lost minutes occasionally -- now it hasn't worked for years and I haven't tried it -- perhaps it just needs re-winding ;-)
