Silver, NOT plated, square Persian trinket/jewelry/tobacco box with repoussed hinged lid and etched sides. Measures 6 3/8" x 6 3/8" x 1". Four "L" shaped feet. Ornate floral with round center on lid and Islamic motifs on sides. Looks like other designs that I have seen from Qajar dynesty ca. 1900. Box has a "golden" patina. It was never machine polished, but a little bit of Tarnex residue is visible in some places if held at an angle. There are some small surface oxidation spots around the edge of the lid. There is a hallmark, but it is tiny and I can't read Arabic (See photos). I have 5 photos of it but only posted 2. There is no Russian "84" silver mark that I have found. This box is in very good condition with no wearing down of the etching. It has no damage and no reparis. Hinged lid works smoothely. There are a few small knicks here and there due to age and use. The box is from my mothers estate. She was in Russia and in the middle east. She got it one place or the other in the late 1950's. This is a heavy box, but I don't know the weight.
