This is a beautiful hand painted porcelain vase or urn. The base is white and has a raised design. One side is floral and the other side is a painting by Boucher(z?) (not sure of authenticity of signature) of a colonial couple, a woman feeding a man grapes. The bottom and top have a gilded design and both handles are also gilded with a design of circles. the piece stands 7.25" tall and 5" wide including the handles. The bottom has gold numbers 184 and a blue mark of double intersecting x's. Research of the mark has been somewhat difficult but resembles that of Chauveaux though I am not 100% sure its exactly the same since I am looking online. The piece has not chips, cracks or repairs but has some wear that can be expected from a vintage or antique item. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Antique Porcelain Vase or Urn with Colonial Couple ...
Hi
I have pieces with the same markings on this site, I hope the following is helpful, I have been looking for years, and am convinced this is correct, are your numbers on the bottom in gold ? if so the item is most likely Schierholz.
I did found that efineantiques.com shows your mark - quoting a specialist book which identifies the mark as belonging to Schierholz of Plaue. They also show several other marks of this company - some of which are also identified on this site elsewhere.
So we are talking about Von Schierholz of Plaue, Thuringia, Germany (formerly 'C. G. Schierholz & Son' - they changed their name in 1912). According to Robert E. Roentgen in his book "Marks on German, Bohemian and Austrian Porcelain", your mark is shown to have been used by Schierholz c.1865-1911.

Thank you so much for the information. I broke down and had it appraised and you are correct about the mark. I really appreciate your response to my post and all the extra information. I will have to take a look at purchasing some additional books as they seem to be quite helpful.
Take care,
Cecili

Did you get an appraisal, and if so, how much is it worth?
Re: Antique Porcelain Vase or Urn with Colonial Couple...
Dear eckertc,
My sister and I inherited from our parents a very similarlooking pair of Boucher urns which were converted into lamps. They are about twice the size of the ones you posted. Would you be able to tell me what your urns were appraised for? That would give us some idea of what these may be worth as we are now looking to sell them.
The vase portion is 13 7/8" H x 9 1/2" W
Lamp = Vase with Base is 17 1/8" H
Height to top of lampshade is 28 1/2" H
Excellent condition. No chips. Some gold gilding on handles is worn off.
I don't seem to be able to add a photo here so I will set up a separate posting on this site.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks.
