wow.... My wife and I have the exact same piece. My grandmother gave it to us several years ago. I know she had it in her posession for well over 30 years. Other than that, I dont know much about it. We are considering getting it re-finished but I was currious the worth before we invest the $600-800 it's going to cost. Please let me know if you've found out any more about the piece.

It's not antique and it's unlikely it predates the 1960's, still it is an interesting item, and any bar is worth investing in ;~). $300.00 at auction.
