Description This is a rather large trunk. When I found it in my Great-Uncles house, it had some type of covering on it which was in shreds & had to be removed. Otherwise, it is in remarkable condition. Has the original lining & very few scratches, etc. It is missing both end handles & also part of the front lock. Otherwise, everything on it is original. It appears to have held hanging clothes or something. Also, the left end is slightly humpbacked & also opens.

These are generically referred to as "Steamer trunks", after the fact they were often used for ocean travel on steamship prior to World War One. These travel trunks were also used for train and overland travel as well. The flat top type were produced mainly after the turn of the 19th Century, but remain in production to this day. This one is missing its drawers and other interior bits. Value, well at auction similar trunks often sell for less than $200.00. Lovejoy
