Would like an estimated value prior to putting it up for sale.

Grandparents purchased it many years ago, sadly no family

members want to keep it.

Friends of ours have a similar one, but I don't think it was ever appraised. Was this refinished? I have never seen a shiny finish like this (usually oiled or waxed) on antique Asian furniture.

We'd probably retail one like it for about $800.00 and discount down about 20% if it did not sell within a reasonable period of time.

It has not been refinished, it might appear shiny from the camera flash. However it does have a hard finish of some kind, almost like a hard laquer, more on the inside of it than the outside. A local consignment shop says $1500, and another one says $2500.

These really are not as old as they look, they were made right into the 1940's. Heavily carved pieces like this are hard to sell in a lot of areas, we pick up comparable examples at auction for less than $300.00 in many cases...this one went for $275.00 https://www.liveauctioneers.com/item/10056875_asian-inspired-lift-top-bar-carved

That one was in very good condition and most likely been fully refinished which  would kike the price considerably. Galleries generally tend to have highly inflated prices, then are discounted for actual sale.
