I reciently accuired this beauty at a garage sale and was curious as to the actual vale. Overall the lamp is in great condition, nothing seems to be broken or missing, there is however a small spot on the sculptuers upper thigh as seen in the photos. The lamp measures 39" high (to top of shade) and roughly 19" wide (at widest part of shade). There are a few indicators on the lamp base itself, one reads "Aug Moreau" the others reads "Collection Francaise". A tag hangs covered by the shade that reads "JB Hirsch" along with a number "3200" and a discription of the company etc. I found similiar items but none that quite looked like this one so I don't have a clear idea of the value. Any information on the history of the item along with a appraisal would be greatly appreciated.Â

Re: Auguste Moreau JB Hirsch Bronze Lamp
""Auguste Moreau, the third son of sculptor and painter Jean Baptiste Moreau, Auguste initiated himself to sculpture along with his older brother Mathurin. In 1861, he made his debut at the Salon, where he would exhibit regularly until 1913. His subjects were primarily genre scenes, pastorals, and allegories; his style was realistic and graceful, revealing his relation to the other members of the Moreau dynasty. The similitude of names sometimes provokes confusion in the attribution of certain works signed without first initials".
Did a search and that's what I found about The designer of the lamp. The person died in 1917, and so of course had nothing to do with their statue designs being made into lamps. So what you have is a mass produced lamp made for JB Hirsh home decor store in Newark NJ. Though have no idea when it was sold or if they are still selling them.
