Description

Bought from an antiques dealer who didnt know history of the item but was guessing it is a reproduction from the 1920s. Same day I bought it I found a sofa with an identical frame being sold on ebay, the seller is saying it is authentic victioran not a reproduction. ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160583491560&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT ) The wood on my sofa is in good condition with a few scuffs but otherwise nice. The woodwork is deep and detailed, very nice. The upholstery needs a little help, it has a little yellowing and the seller said he believed it had been reupholstered previously.

Hoping to determine whether this is a reproduction or authentic and what it might be worth. Thank you for any insight you may have, and thanks for taking a look.

It's very hard to tell without actually physically examining the piece, but the 1920's pieces were a mix of Rococo and Art Deco, which this one isn't. Direct repro's of these Victorian pieces were not made until the peak of the Victorian decorating craze during the 1980's. In either case currently there is almost no demand for these Victorian style pieces, at auction we see them selling now for less than $200.00

Thanks Lovejoy. After some more searching I found a few more sofas and then an article on it. Its a "very well done" reproduction from the 1920s made by the Pullman Furniture company. According the the article the 3rd leg and size of the sofa is a tipoff due to the fact the mediallion sofas tended to be smaller. According to the same article it was appraised at $300-$500.
