Description
I have purchased a desk from an auction. Upon getting it home it has the Berkey and Gay Furniture brass emblem in side of the drawer with the C & O but does not have anything about trademark. I read on a site that somewhere between 1905 and 1929 they started using the brass emblem without the trademark but I am not sure if that is true. The style of the desk does not look to be from that time frame. The desk is in pretty good shape. Has a few scratches and as you can see some damage to the paint on top.

I have the same desk, except its in a dark mahogany. I just has it checked out by a cerified antique restoration center. I never had it appraised. If anyone nows more about the desk, I like to know more. I can't find much about it. The label in inlaid brass, with out the Simmons marking on it and has "46" stamped in the wood in the drawer with the inlay

Most desks like this date from the first quarter of the 20th century and are reproductions of American Colonial or Federal pieces. Values for them depend a great deal on their condition, as most use veneered surfaces, which is very expesive to repair if it's bubbled, loose or chipped. In very good condition comparables would retail $500.00+
