http://www.silvercollection.it/AMERICANSILVERPLATEMARKSQSDUE.html It appears to be a petroleum courting lamp. 1857 + In 1856 the firm again changed to Barnes, Hobbs & Co., composed on John L. Hobbs, James F. Barnes, J. H. Hobbs, and J. K Dunham. Under this firm name the business was continued until 1857, when the firm changed to Hobbs & Barnes. In this year the discovery of the illuminating property of petroleum, and the distillation of illuminating oils from from coal in Kentucky and elsewhere, added a new branch to the manufacture of of lamps and chimneys. I don't do silver unless it is bullion or the object itself that I'm interested in. I use stainless. Have you a small magnet?? :) Have a great weekend~

if it is barnes, hobbs & co. why does it say F.B. ROGERS SILVER CO. TAUNTON ,MASS QUADRUPLE 1526 on the bottom?? no i dont have a magnet i will try to find one why?? thank you for your time. carrie

The F. B. Rogers Silver Company was originally founded in 1883 (sometimes 1883 is incorporated in the mark) in Shelburne Falls, Massachusetts and was moved to Taunton, MA in 1886. The company has used many different marks over the years and they are still in business today. Quadruple plate means that there are four layers of silver over a base metal such as copper or silver. The number is the pattern number. One for sale here w/o the wick holder. http://www.ioffer.com/i/53032021 I am having a hard time finding a site with dated marks to give you a year of manufacture. I also think that is a Bee. Hope this helps your search.
