Capodimonte Oval Bowl/Soup Tureen w Removable Lid

By maddiejoy, 15 August, 2016
Description

This Capodimonte piece has four short porcelain legs-one in front, one in back, and one on each side.  The lid has a type of "handle" with what appears to be a woman's face with dark hair and a bow beneath the chin.  There is another face under this one on the bowl itself.  It appears to be a man's face with brown hair, rosey cheeks, green moustache with his mouth open.  On each side of the man's face is a pink flower, then some type of design in blue.

The bowl itself appears to have cherubs on the front...two in the middle that appear to be holding hands or jointly holding an item.  There is another cherub sitting on the left and another kneeling on the right.  They are in a garden....possibly to represent Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden???

The markings on the bottom of the bowl are a crown with some type of object on top of a shield.  The shield is gray with a sash of white containing three stars.  On each side of the shield is a branch.  The letter "G" is above the branch on the left, and the letter "B" is above the branch on the right.  Under the branches are the letters "R. Capodimonte".  Under this is written "1535/446" and "Italy".
