It's been in my friend's family for about 40 years. His dad got it for a loan repayment in the late 60's. He thought this model was made for a Soda Shop, or "hang out" kind of place, rather than, say, a department store.

According to the manufacturer's chart (http://www.brasscashregister.net/learn_more/articles/how_to_date_your_national_or_ncr_cash_register/), it was made on Nov 18, 1892.
