Description

This is a Lane chest I recently aquired and I am interested in what it is worth? I might be interested in selling it depending on it's value. It is in really good condition and is a blond finish with some antique crackle finish and  woven detail going down both sides of the front with a drawer in the bottom front and an automatic lock that you have to push to open. Serial # 591403 and Style # 2962

The serial number seems to be "off".  It is definitely a mid-century piece 50's-60's.

In the beginning the serial numbers were 6 digits and were read left to right.  In your case, it would read 031459.

Lane changed the serial number to 7 digits.

The serial #, read backwards, will tell you the month, day and year it was manufactured.  If it has 7 numbers, the last number indicates which plant it was made at.  Example

2235150  = 2 / 23 / 51 / 50  shows it was made on May 15, 1932 at plant #2.

In your case, if it were made March 14, 1959 it would read 954130.
