Description

Amish? Old? Antique? I don't know. Its a heavy solid Cedar Chest. Its Dovetail construction, with a very unique design that I cant find anywhere. Makers mark on the bottom is as follows
R. H. Macy's co o no 3305 New York City NY Dept 28 no 42540. I cant find it listed anywhere. Lets just say that it is a nice piece of furniture. It has a mortice lock that works but can be sticky. I made a skeleton key for it that works. It shows some wear and chips at the bottom at the feet. It is finished in shellac. The inside is unfinished. It has not been refinished to my knowledge I just cleaned it up. I have been dragging it around for 20 years .So I know its older then that. I replaced the original hinges because one was missing. The new hinges are the same size and spacing and required no modifications to the cedar chest. I still have the one original hinge. Size is as follows outside 41"3/8 long 23"high from the top of the handles to the to the bottom of the feet 201/4 wide. Inside13 3/4 deep 181/4 wide 371/4 long
