Chinese (possible qing dynasty) dragon chair

Profile picture for user HellzANGEL

Description

I found this chair in a Malibu storage unit after the once very wealthy owner was sent to prison for tax fraud. The owner apparently had owned it for several years, and I have owned it for almost 10 years. I didnt think much about it until I went to throw it out and a friend suggested I research it. This chair has ivory eyes, and detailed carving on the wood, with a ho ho or phoenix on the back rest of the chair. I was told to look for crisp edges, but this chair has none, they are all soft. It definitely has some wear and tear on it, but all the pieces are here and intact. Any help with this chair would be greatly appreciated, it's suck a pain to clean with all the intricate details in the chair, I'm just ready for it to go!

Re: Chinese (possible qing dynasty) dragon chair

Furniture of this type is Generally Chinese in origin, dating from the first quarter of the 20th Century. The wood type is generally "HongMu". Values for it vary a great deal depending on local demand. The chairs currently go at auction in the $300.00- $500.00 range.
