Re: Clara Louise Kellogg Desk
We purchased a piece of furniture with the Clara Louise Kellogg medallion on it from Craigslist a few years ago. (The seller had advertized it as a Martha Washington desk.) It was in very rough shape and had been stored in a barn or outbuilding for some time. Because it is an item which has a knee-hole and doors on either side but oddly had a floor in it and wheels, we are assuming it might be Miss Kellogg's travel vanity. We currently have it displayed in our home. We had to put a top on it but made it so it didn't harm or modify the original part of the piece. The locks on the doors still work and the wood is beautiful. I don't know how to upload a picture but I'm interesting in finding out if there are more pieces like this and what their story is. The only ones I have seen have been listed in a museum but I did a see a couple of the medallions on ebay.
