Notation on Back of Wooden Frame:16 X 26 OIl on Canvas signed Claude R. Hirst NY Title: Sunflowers
I have researched the artist and know she is renowned for her trompe l'oeil style paintings. In the early 1880's she painted floral compositions. I feel this painting most resembles her 1881 painting entitled, "Roses". The treatment of the leaves and overall style are very similar. The ornate plaster frame has damage to the left side and the picture itself is in good condition. It has a few minute paint chips and is dirty. It is signed Claude R Hirst NY on the lower right. Is there anybody that could tell us if this is an original Claude R Hirst oil painting and what the possible value may be?
