Clear Glass Paperweight with Silver Pistol inside?

I don't know if this is actually a paperweight. This item is 3 inches in diameter.  Appears to be clear glass,  but I don't know enough about it to know for sure.  It has a silver pistol in the center of the ball. There are no bubbles in the glass. It sits on a square stand.  There are no marks on the pistol inside  and no chips on the ball itself.

This item was given to me by my Grandfather and it has been on a shelf for the past 30 years that I can remember. Probably even longer. I don't know where it came from or who made it, but would like to hear any thoughts on what it might be! Thank you!
