Coffee Table With Oriental Carved Marking on the top

By andyherts, 8 December, 2010
Description

I found this table at a car boot sale over 15 years ago. The woman that sold it to me said it used to belong to her grandmother and that she didn't want to sell it but needed to make room in her house.

I think it's supposed to have a glass top, but there wasn't one. The whole thing folds quite flat, and it swings open and has two swing legs underneath it.

I have no idea how much it's worth, maybe nothing...but it's a stunning beautiful carving on the top! It took me hours and hours to clean it up when I bought it for only ÂŁ20!...You could barely see the carvings. The outside of the legs also have an oriental/flower carving down them.

I showed a bad picture of it to a little local antique shop about 10 years ago, they said it wasn't worthing anything but would give me ÂŁ50 for it as it looked so nice...obviously I declined as I wasn't THAT desperate for money!

It seems to have a crack/split in the top which may have been repaired before.

Re: Coffe Table With Oriental Carved Marking on the top

Tables like these generally post date the 1920's, and remained in production until the 1950's. They originally did have a glass top. I've seen these go at auction for under $100.00.
