Davis Cabinet Company Bedroom Set

Profile picture for user SarasVintageTouch

Description

I received an entire bedroom set as part of an estate.  A long dresser with mirror, two nightstands (one of two pictured below) a powder table with an intact mirror inside that extends and a king size headboard & footboard.   I have been able to find very little information about this particular set online so I'm hoping to find some help here.
Here's what I know...the set is made of solid Ash wood and the finish MAY have either been custom or redone since it's handwritten on the tags as "French Gray & Blue".  The only thing that leads me to believe it was possibly done by the Davis Co. is that from the tags I have viewed online the finish is usually typed in...this tag was left blank in the area above "Finish", and later the finish was handwritten in.  Had there been a stock/standard finish done by the company initially I would think it would have typed in like all the other tags???  The set is at least 80 years old (based on how long the last owners owned it - although it may be much older since it belonged to their parents).
The condition is really good for its age.  There is no structural damage, lifting, bowing - but it could use a new finish.
So my question is this...how much is this worth as it stands?  Would it be more valuable as a set or should I sell it in pieces?  (Although I am considering keeping it for myself as it is gorgeous!)  And would painting it decrease its value?
