Dining Room Suit

By schmad, 3 June, 2008
Description

I am trying to determine a value on this dining room furniture. It was is stamped by the Grand Rapids Chair Company, but also has an oval shaped metal plate that has Dexter Fine Furniture. There are ten pieces total, which includes table, buffet, china cupboard, side table, and six chairs-two of which have arms. The table measures app. 41 inchesx5'2'' and includes two leaves which measure 16'' each. The drawer pulls are oval. There are rosettes above the legs on the buffet and the side table. The buffet and side table also have a bow front. The drawers are made with dovetail construction. The table top has a few water marks on it but other than that set seems to be in good condition. I obtained this set from my neighbor who had it most of her married life. I haven't been able to find much information on Grand Rapids Chair Company. I would also like to know a possible date when this set may have been manufactured.

Re: Dining Room Suit

I'm surprised there isn't anybody out there that can give me some information on this furniture. Surely someone could at least tell me where I might be able to get information. I don't know where to begin. Thanks

Re: Dining Room Suit

Your suite is in the Federal Revival style and dates from the second quarter of the 20th Century. We have Grand Rapids Chair Co., Grand Rapids listed as operating 1872-1962, the company purchased by Sligh-Lowry, 1947 and by Baker Furniture Co. in 1957. Suites like this sell at auction for about $1500.00- $2000.00.
