Dresser with Vanity Mirror

By roro, 14 October, 2014
Description

I don't know how old this dresser is or how much it is worth.  I have done a little research and from what I have read so far it may be late 19th or early 20th century.  The dovetails on the big drawer look unevenly spaced, or may be colonial.  The hardware used to hold it together are round nals with flat heads, not screws.  There are screws on the handles, which leads me to believe they may have been replaced?  It looks like it may have been hand made due to many irregularities throughout, or maybe just sagging because it is old.  The legs look to be sheraton style.  The drawer slats are wooden and the smaller draw slat photo shows a metal barb sticking up in the front, not sure what the purpose of this is other than to keep the drawer from pulling out all the way maybe? it is all made from solid wood, I think mahogany or some other hard wood, there is no pressboard or plywood anywhere not the drawer bottoms or even the back.

It is a beautiful dresser and I wish I could keep it, but I don't have any room for it.  I have a very small house.  I got it from my mother-in-law's house when she passed.  No one wanted it and at the time I needed dressers as my son had moved home from college and brought a friend with him, and ours were falling apart.  Now we don't need it, not exactly the right dresser for my son's room, and I can't fit it in mine.
