Early Autumn

By deedove3, 9 January, 2011
Description

It is done in autumn colors on the tree leaves near two story houses and by a lake. There is a horse drawn cart with man in it. They are on a road coming from lake to a place where a man and a woman is standin facing eachother.  There is also a man in distance by the lake. The clothes of the woman has a  long dress with apron and a bonnet on her head,  and she carries a basket. She is probably talking with the man who has some kind of wooden stick or rather a long tool. Perhaps a sycle to cut hay

. The one house has green door and shutters on windows and is large cement looking style.  Has two chimneys and steep roof. . It also has a staircase to the front door of six steps and no railing.  There is a  wooden fence going from house talmost to the road between the houses.   Part of the house is like a story amd a half attached enlargement..

It is almost done in an impressionist form where all is not distinct like a photograph or realistic painting is done.  There are shadows from the trees in forefront that cover the ground near the road that is coming to the forefront.to the right angle. It is pleasant with orange hues mostly, and looks like it is in original frame and it is under glass.

The frame has carvings on it and painted a dark gold. It was bought somewhere up in Wisconsin by my husbands mother or sister and given to me in the 1980's.  The artist's name seems to be a J. Petersen in left hand corner but the J could be a T depending on interpretation of the artitst's handwriting..On the back is brown paper with the words Early Autumn stamped on it but paper is almost half torn off. No other marks are seen but there is a old string that is on back attached to eyelets to hold it on wall.  Very crude but strong.

I can take a photo of it if it is a valuable painting as an antique etc.  The glass may deflect a flash so would have to do it in a well lit room.  Thank you for anything you can do to tell about the artist and when he lived and where.  Also is does it have any monetary value or not.  Dee Dove.

Re: Early Autumn

I have the exact same print, however, mine is larger (20 x 24).  Did you ever receive an appraisal on this print?  I haven't been able to obtain any information about the print.
