Description

Bought this locally at a thrift shop.   I’ve seen Elios Schiavon’s signature a few ways.   Did see a plate on Invaluable with same signature.    Any idea if this is his?

  • Style: Mid-Century Modern / Modernist
  • Origin: Italy (likely from the Bassano del Grappa region in Veneto)
  • Medium: Glazed and hand-painted ceramic tile mounted in a wood frame

  • Subject Matter: Stylized figures of musicians (stringed instrument and horn player) in an abstract setting with geometric patterns

Authentication & Attribution:

  • The signature on the artwork is consistent with those found on verified pieces by Elios Schiavon, a known Italian ceramicist and painter from the mid-20th century.
  • Schiavon was known for vibrant, textured ceramic panels featuring musical themes, abstract figures, and scenes from everyday life, often with bold outlines and earthy tones.
  • The back of the plaque (as seen in your images) and the firing style further support Italian origin and mid-century production.

If you’d like full authentication (for insurance or auction purposes), a professional appraiser or ceramic art specialist should be consulted to confirm the signature and provenance.

Artist Background – Elios Schiavon:

Elios Schiavon was active in Venice and Bassano del Grappa in the mid-to-late 20th century. He produced a wide range of decorative art tiles, plates, and panels, many of which were exported to the U.S. and sold through upscale gift and art stores. His works are sought after today for their modernist flair and stylized imagery.
