elusive date on Magnavox astro sonic

By lucksy, 6 November, 2009
Description

The only information I could find was on a little worn out piece of paper glued to the back. It said model# 1P3625 Run# 1 FINISH WAL then either P or D There is some damage to the unit, watermarks, dents, and scrapes, but would clean up nice. The stereo and turntable still work great. The legs are tipped in metal, brass or something I think. They are starting to turn green from oxidization, and there is what I think might be a faint coffee stain on the cloth on one of the speakers. Will that steam clean out? I would also like opinions on whether I should strip it down and re-finish it, or would that just deplete it's value? The last pic is the worst damage spot on the unit. I sure can't find any information on this particular unit, but I have learned quit a bit about Magnavox Astro Sonic stereo units since staring my search for information! Thank You!!!

Re: elusive date on Magnavox astro sonic

In my opinion a unit in this condition is worth only about $50 on the secondary market. The sentimental value is what makes it worth something. Once again- this is just my opinion. Perhaps this model is very rare.. but this era of Magnavox console (mid to late 60s) can be found all over eBay and Craigslist in good condition for under $100. For some reason people don't want them anymore! Their loss is our gain. My opinion is if you refinish it and make it look nice the 'good feeling' you'll get from making what was once old 'new' again will be worth more than any "blue book value" this might have. Happy restoring!
