Description This oil painting is in very good condition. The frame has some separation at the joints as can be seen in the picture. Its really just been hanging on the wall for 60 years and we'd like to know the value of it. There is no name that I know of for the painting. I just described it as "Ship on a Stormy Sea". Any information that anyone has is appreciated.

Nobody can tell from an image if your piece is an original or a copy. What I can tell you is Emile Maillard ( 1846-1926)was born at Amiens, and studied art with MM. Bertin, Bonlanger and Lefebvre. His first exhibit was at the Salon of 1888, where he received honorable mention. His paintings tend to depict a lot of ships on turbulent seas ;~) The latest one that sold at auction went for just under $1000.00.

Lovejoy

It seems that the paintings of Emile Maillard are spread throughout the world. My family owns also one: "Fisher Ships in a stormy sea". The picture is in our family since more than 50 years. We live in Switzerland. Edgar Stettler Thalwil Switzerland, Wednesday 1st April 2009
