Esther Large Oil Painting signed Esther

By QueenBri, 21 August, 2014
Description

I have a large 3 ft x 4ft original landscape oil painting on canvas. It's got kind of a dark background but really colorful trees and a blue bridge. The only clue I have to the identity of the artist is the name "Esther". It's in the bottom right corner. At least I think it says Esther, the E kinda looks like a Z but I think it's probably just the way the artist's brush hit the canvas. It's in a wooden frame, no backing.

I purchashed the exact same painting from a local merchant 25 years ago, Cincinnati OH area for I believe $100.00, however the store was going out of business and it was marked down 70% and then an additional 50%, retail list was around $800.00, been searching for the last 10 yrs with no luck.  The original seller was McAlpins in Crestview Hills, KY.

Re: Esther Large Oil Painting signed Esther

I ALSO HAVE AN OIL PAINTING BY "ESTHER" AND THIS IS WHAT I GOT BACK ON THE APRISAL. This is a vintage, later 20th century, about 1980's, original painting on canvas that was done in impasto (raised areas of paint) and palette knife. It is signed Esther at lower right and depicts a colorful blooming summer garden and white picket fencing. There are numerous works that have been offered at sales with the same quick style of painting signed Esther. It is most likely that "Esther" was not a single person, but instead a group of factory painters who produced decorative wall art paintings. These were not intended as works of fine art for investment purposes. The estimate is based on actual recent past recorded auction sales of comparables. Retail 'asking prices' can be higher and vary.
