Description

I have a solid, cast iron table top jewelry safe that I would like to know more about. It is approximately 11"L x 7.5"D x 4.5"T and weighs about 15-20 lbs. It has painted flowers in great condition on the top and 3 sides. There is a lock but no key and the lock latch appears to be damaged. The hinges are in working order. The overall condition is pretty good. There are raised words on the top of the safe: "Lady's Improved Jewelry Safe".

Based on a similar item I found online I believe it was produced by Evans & Watson safe company circa mid-late 1800's. I got the piece from a friend who was moving and sending it to Goodwill. I have had it about 10 years and always loved it and wondered more about its history. Would love to know the value, what it was used for any by whom!
