He is the creator of immune preparations from human blood against antibiotic resistant bacteria that saved thousands of lives in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe.In Russia, he was professor and Chief of the Immunology Laboratory of the Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion and was awarded gold and silver medals for his scientific discoveries.His laboratory was also awarded the nation's highest honor, the Lenin Prize, for his patented work.

He is the pioneer of anticytokine therapy, which opened the way to a new understanding of the pathogenesis and treatment of autoimmune diseases and thus helped bring treatments that have improved the health of many people. He has written more than 240 articles for scientific publications.
