Re: folkart wooden box
Antique American (European Style) Folk Art Box
Circa: 1890 - 1910
Very nice piece of history. This style I would agree is Eastern European (most likely Poland, but also influnced byHungery and the Ukraine), The hinges are period and ware is consistant with the age of the piece. These pieces are very collectable because they have an nice folk art look and can store things. Practicality is important as well as having a small piece of unique history. Definately a one of a kind.
Sorry to hear of your friends passing ...
Est Value: $200 - $300 US pending market and demand. I would insure this under your house contents for $400 - $500 US.
Please reply and leave me feedback on my valuation. Thanks kindly for sharing this super cool piece of history,
Peace Always

Re: folkart wooden box
Thank you, I have always loved the box. It is very dear to me. I thought of my friend as a grandmother. She told us the story of visiting the north east and being given this box by a Polish prince. I don't know if the prince part is true. Again thank you.
Re: folkart wooden box
You are most welcome .. I am sure your friend has reconnected with her Polish Prince. The nicest thing about memories and antiques, is the memories they instill in our hearts. This is definately priceless ... No amount of money is worth what it has given you .. Thanks again for sharing it .... Peace Always ... TJG ...
