Re: Francis Lee Jaques SCRATCH BOARD
THIS IS A EMAIL THAT I RECIEVED TODAY TO CONFIRM THAT THESE ARE ORIGNAL FRANCIS L JAQUES ARTS.
FROM DON LUCE AT THE BELL MUSEUM OF NATURAL HISTORY.
Marvin-Looks like you found some original Jaques art. The oil painting of green-winged teal appears to be early - maybe 1920s. The black and white drawing is called a scratchboard. It was done for the book "Snowshoe Country" published in 1944. Be very careful with the scratchboard, the surface can be easily scratched or cracked. The Bell Museum has a large collection of Jaques art and he also painted many of the backgrounds for our large diorama exhibits. We have three Jaques artworks on display now in the exhibition Audubon and the Art of Birds. Also some of his pencil sketches in another exhibition. Both works have value. the Bell Museum doesn't have a budget to purchase these, but would be very interested in a donation.-Don Luce
